Kimberling City is the largest populated city on Table Rock Lake with houses and condos dotted all along the shores of Kimberling City. Kimberling City is located on Table Rock Lake where the James River from the North merges with the White River from the West.
Kimberling City was originally settled as a direct result of the construction of Table Rock Dam and Reservoir by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Kimberling City was incorporated in 1973 and has a typical City government consisting of a Mayor and Board of Alderman.
The City was named after the Kimberling Family, who for many years had operated a ferry approximately where the present State Highway 13 bridge is now located. One of the legends that remains today is the proposed dismantling of the old Highway 13 bridge.
When Table Rock Lake was filled, flash flooding occurred and the Old Hwy 13 bridge is still 100 to 140 feet under water. You will find old pictures in many of the businesses depicting the current bridge in regards to the old bridge.
Kimberling City has some of the oldest developed areas on Table Rock Lake since it was one of the first cities developed because of the lake access and the bridge that crosses Table Rock Lake bringing the North Shores and the South Shores of Table Rock Lake within easy access of each other.
